Likely some duplication but 72 listings on the Presto site!

I don't see the Rachmaninov 1st or 4th piano concertos in the PDF or the RSS. Lots to discuss about either, including multiple revisions of the scores, at least some of which have been recorded in their earlier editions. We have the composer's own recordings for comparison, and modern cycles from Stephen Hough, Daniil Trifonov, Yuja Wang and Leif Ove Andsnes, etc. that can't have been covered before even if the works have been.

How about the Etudes of Ligetti?

Back in 2003, Ivan Hewett picked Toros Can (Books 1-2) and Pierre-Laurent Aimard (Books 1-3) as joint first choice. I don't know Can and I think his version may be out of print, but Aimard would surely still be one of the favourites today. But looking on Presto there have been quite a few recordings since then - time to revisit? Rather shockingly, that seems to be the only Ligeti they've done in 25 years, except for a survey of his works in 2018 (podcast here).

Not for the first time, I'd suggest the Ysaye solo sonatas which are recorded so often nowadays that they may be considered mainstream although I expect the recent Hilary Hahn may well be a foregone conclusion.

In 2010, David Fanning's recommended version of the Tchaikowsky was Pletnev on a Virgin Classics double CD which also included Pictures From An Exhibition.
In 2014, Stephen Johnson's recommended recording of Bruckner's 4th was the Berlin Philharmonic/Wand on RCA Victor Red Seal. .

                  Schumann's Märchenerzählungen -- masterpiece

Beethoven's eyeglass duo and ghost trio -- nice fun music, not too barnstorming.

Schubert/Liszt transcriptions. First class music, lots of recordings.

                  Schubert's Nachtelle -- masterpiece

All the fun Mozart which often falls below the radar:

                  Divertimento K334
                  Violin and Viola duo K424
                  Wind serenade K375
                  Oboe Quartet k370
                  Flute quartet no 1 k285
                  Horn Quintet k407
                  Duo for Violin/Viola no 1 k423
                  Violin Sonata k526
Quintet for Piano and Winds K542
                  String Trio K563

                  The Machaut mass

                  The Schoenberg piano suite.

How about a survey of the music of Bo Holten? (Who must be a candidate for Composer of the Week).

We're certainly not going to run short of suggestions for next year's Summer BaLs, given the contributions already in this thread.

Can I remind forumites of our Recordings in Discussion option

which might be a good place to set a hare running if you have a particular favourite of one of the pieces mentioned and you want to see what others think and you can't wait until next summer (not least now that the clocks have changed). That sub-forum might also be ideal, say, for the Bo Holton suggestion.

Schubert/Liszt is a cornucopia, but quite hard to narrow down for a BAL?
                          The opera fantasies might work.

Listening just now to Boult’s recording of The Hymn of Jesus, which has prompted me to post re the most shameful admission from this year’s Building a Library, namely an episode to honour the Holst 150th anniversary.

I see they have just announced the Planets for mid January. That certainly leaves me with egg on my face.
