    Snap!
And we won't hold it against you, Richard.
We're a pretty tolerant bunch on the whole.

I'm wondering if I dare post on the Stravaganza page that Podger's playing is not for me.

Oh, please do! In my view Rachel Podger is like so many people in the media today (David Hockney, Helen Mirren): accomplished, successful, good at what they do, but absurdly overpraised.

Will this be the first time a recording originally issued with BBC MM qualifies for consideration on BaL?
Perhaps the winner will be a Staatskapelle, thus giving the Germans an 'Elgar double' .

For me the second movement of Elgar 2 is a bit like Bruckner but with music.

(I do actually like the odd bit of Bruckner and am deliberately overstating this point but perhaps someone will get what I mean.)

            Indeed not. Just great sympathy.

Perhaps the Dresden Staatskapelle will 'do the double', as I believe their recording of the 2nd Symphony is the current BaL recommendation.
                Probably.
Their Tippett 2 and 4 conducted by the composer was subsequently released on NMC, but neither work has been a BaL subject, has it?

                    There’s a Dresden Staatskapelle Elgar 2?

No stranger than the idea of a Berlin Staatskapelle Elgar 2, I'd say.

                        .
I'm pretty sure the BBC MM version of Belshazzar's Feast was praised highly, if not their top recommendation - Pulcinella will put me right if not.

That was a terrible Richard Morrison BAL . By the way the Boult live Elgar 1 was first released on a Pickwick 2 disc set concentrating on the Last Night of the Proms before it then became a BBCMM CD . I recall EG being blown away by the performance in Gramophone and bought the set.

Richard try this one - if you don't like Elgar 1 after this then by all means give up !

I've just listened to Jeremy Summerly's summing up for Belshazzar's Feast and I don't think the BBC MM recording is mentioned.
When the work under review was Mozart's K361, a number of Forumites expressed their admiration for the BBC MM recording, some adding that they were content with that one alone, but I don't think it was taken into consideration.

                                Ach so. Schade!

Speaking of Germans, there was a live BRSO/C Davis Elgar 2 in circulation, it has popped up on YouTube from time to time. Would love to see a proper issue of that.
