It's the fact that there is no evidence of it being scrapped that I didn't - on this occasion - go to the top. But if Record Review will only be 2 hours long, something is being cut back. I'm not really expecting the lower echelons to spill the beans on this. Just throwing a pebble in the pond!

    AD - no I didn't suggest a work
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Do we actually know that, just because Record Review is moving to a shorter afternoon slot, it would either take BaL with it or we might lose it?
Might it stay where it is, and be part of the three-hour Tom Service morning slot?

And annoy two sets of listeners at once perhaps?
No specific mention of BaL could be an oversight, or an assumption that keeping a slot for RR means by implication keeping BaL. Or it could be a way of gauging listeners' strength of feeling to inform a decision about whether to keep it at all in the new version of R3?

Please don’t mention the 3-hours-of-Tom-Service-slot. It could bring on a migraine (and I’ve never had a migraine).

Steady on: poor Alpie really will need some medication.

No: in fact I was thinking that AMcG will still do RR but TS might host the BaL slot.
              Unlikely though, I imagine.

All that experience has told me regarding changes to the R3 schedules is that where there is news that they think might not be welcomed by 'listeners' they don't announce it at all until it's fait accompli.

Record Review website has published its schedule for April 6th. Building a Library is on at 3pm and Record of the week at 3.45 DON is discussing RVW's Sea Symphony with AMcg

Only 33 listings on the Presto site, some of which will be duplicates.

Alison will be delighted to hear that there's a BBC MM CD too (and it's pretty good, though it won't be in the running).

Alpie has just been in touch to say that he is happy to compile the list for us, as it's one of his favourite works.

Alpie should get while the getting is good. The Sea Symphony is is the one RVW that I just can’t make it through

Not a very big pile if they only have an hour to cover everything apart from BaL and the RotW.

I've bought many new recordings I'd never have heard if not for RR. Perhaps there's now a gap in the market for some podcast (perhaps hosted by a former R3 presenter) to produce a more comprehensive weekly review, just as The News Agents continues the tradition of BBC journalism before it was neutered. I imagine many classical labels are pretty upset at the new schedule, and would be more than happy to cooperate.
