I have no problem with Friday Night is Music Night being resurrected on Radio 3 - but Three hours of Tom Service plus Jools Holland as far as I can see copying This Classical Life for older interviewees and an extended This Classical Life is grim for a Saturday ,
I understand one of Mr Jackson's excuses for Record Review is that more people now listen to the programme after it is broadcast online . Well the reason for that is clear - Record Review as a whole is in decline having become the Andrew McGregor show with no room it seems for anyone who does not agree with him about recordings .
If they had brought back Interpretations on Record that might have been a solace- I see historically there was one from Ida Haendel on BrahmsVC !

I did have a problem a while back listening to a couple of episodes as podcasts, though, since there was so much compression that all the recordings suffered a bit and some quite new recordings ended up sounding ancient…

I’m pretty sure I heard that particular programme as well, although having had the Otter for ages, the one I marked down for future reference was conducted by Cluytens. Don’t remember who was singing. Unlikely to have been Mrs Cluytens.
I also have Sandrine Piau on what I think was her first recording, on Timpani 1c1045, which is the version with piano, and all Delage, and is well worth having.

Whatever they do, I imagine listening figures will drop substantially in the afternoon slot, which also means less exposure. It's almost as if they didn't think through the consequences of trashing something that has served us well since 1957 just to give us 3 hours of Tom Service...

It was Cyrille Dubois's singing I think they loved and I agreed and ordered the CDs when I got home from France
