For Britten completists, the Sandrine Piau version has 3 extra songs orch. Colin Matthews. EA, your listing in OP doesn't need the 'ed. Colin Matthews' because there's no sign that he's put his dibs onto Britten's original Op.18 score

[The 3 extras follow the cycle NB, they're not jammed into the published sequence like the additional studies into Schumann's Etudes Symphoniques.]
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

It's interesting to hear the very early Pears/Britten performance on NMC D030, with the CBS Symphony Orchestra in 1941 (the American premiere). Still available: http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/NMC/NMCD030

For a soprano version, there's a live Suzanne Danco performance with Ansermet that's worth hearing:

Janine Micheau/Paul Sacher (Philips) appears to be out of print at the moment.

I too love a soprano in this work. Pity that Jennyfer Vyvyan never recorded it, though I believe there are some broadcast tapes around - anyone have one by any chance? Her aria in Cantata Academica still sends shivers down my spine. Thrilled to meet her at Aldeburgh once.

A wonderful singer. There was a broadcast in March 1970 when JV sang Les Illuminations with Horenstein and the BBC Northern SO.

Thanks so much FHG - a brilliant find. Only strengthens my admiration for her. Such a distinctive, haunting voice, wonderfully floated high notes, impeccable intonation and great musicianship. http://www.jennifervyvyan.org/ is well worth a visit.

If one must open one's review with a phrase in French, please get the accent at least passable!

Wonderful Martyn Hill with Hickox. But gone from the reckoning now?

Also, loved hearing Maggie Teyte with piano from 1948, which I have somewhere, together with that Pelleas performance where she sang all the roles. Magic.
