Looking at Presto's site scarcely any versions remain available on CD - the7CD set of Previn's recordings of the three - Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty at £12.30 in their boxed set sale looks a no brainer.

Listening to the LSO Previn on RR at the moment. The reviewer praised the orchestral flourishes Previn gets during the Rose Adagio when Aurora picks up the rose. Have to say I found the string playing from the LSO here distinctly scratchy. The Marinsky / Gergiev sounded wonderful.

It's not the fact its 7 cds it's when the recordings are from. The cost of the CDs is pennies

I'll never forget the BaL on Sibelius' violin concerto where the reviewer admitted he'd never heard of Georg Kulenkampff.

When the reviewer doesn’t recognise the recordings she’s supposed to be reviewing, you’re in trouble.

Doing that sequence live for a non professional is pretty demanding, There’s often no time to actually listen to the clips live as you’re usually working out what you’re saying next. I suspect she might have lost her place on the script . Very easily done in a BAL as it’s all the same piece. The only one I can remember doing was a Mozart Clarinet Qt. with Ted Greenfield. He chose at one point 3 twenty second identical clips from different recordings with a very tricky in. Thankfully it was a pre-record. The other challenge is the early start on a Sat morning (if it’s live). Back in the dark ages I think it was paired with doing Farming Today. The pub was to be avoided on Friday evening .

Ah, but Ted Greenfield was a veteran . I think it was he who played a spliced version of the opening of the second movement of Brahms' Violin Concerto (not so easy in the days of reel-to-reel tape) to show how many different oboe timbres there were.

She did mention him two or three times near the beginning. I started to worry that maybe he'd make the final running - or worse - 'win' the damn thing!

Looking at the list in the opening post, there are many CD versions available.
As far as the Previn is concerned, I have a 6-CD set, so I’m wondering whether there’s any extra music in the 7-CD edition.
