Like many others here I was struck by Gamba's stoical manner when facing health problems, and much enjoyed reading his posts (and shared his wish for a virtually wobble-free sopranoverse!). R.I.P.

Apologies! The early hours juxtaposition of gamba's name and your pseudonym confuddled my brain!

But no harm done, and we are both in some senses 'children of gamba' !

Yes, indeed. Of what I knew of him I could imagine him being mildly amused by the situation. He seemed to be able to take some of the absurdities of life, and in his response, make them somehow life-enhancing.

After hearing Storsgard and the BBC today, I have purchased Oramo's new release of Symphonies 1 & 3 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestera. I have to say I think they are both fantastic, although, I am not sure that Chung's recording, which I have and is much older doesn't have better brass in the finale. But still good performances. I should say that the performance by the BBC had nothing to do with my decision. It sounded good but AMG stated he preferred Oramo.

I might have to buy two more then? Storgards and Oramo's?
