According to the sleeve it is; also the 1983 reissue, on HMV Greensleeve (ESD 1077631 c/w Haendel's VC), the pic is of Walton's Ischia gardens, with its near tropical foliage.

Yes!
Here's the Greensleeves cover:
It's the credit for the ASD issue I was wondering about.

In life there are few certainties - that's not one of them: the ESD pic is different...
** Maybe Alfred Hitchcock erected the tower for an 'alternate' Vertigo..

Doesn't look like Forio (where the Waltons -- no, not THOSE Waltons! -- lived) to me: I don't remember a castle tower there.
Recorded in the Guildhall, Southampton.
Recording producer: John Modler
Balance Engineer: Stuart Eltham
Front cover: Forio, Isle of Ischia

I asssumed as much, and must just never have explored enough to find that spot/view, despite several holidays nearby (in Panza, a sort of extension of Forio).
Suggestions for an appropriate picture for the coupling, or is that too off topic?

Yes - here it is if you want to go and stay! http://www.alberghi-ischia.it/forio_ischia_alberghi.htm - with an almost-identical angle on the scene

Our return journey last time was the day we saw the death notices for Lady Susana pasted up as we waited for the bus to the ferry.
The hotel we stayed at is not listed (well, it's not really Forio).

Yes, I have this and strongly recommend it - £5.69 (incl postage) for the Previn/LSO first symphony, Heifetz/Walton violin concerto and Piatigorsky/Munch cello concerto represents great value.
I also have the Hugh on Naxos, but prefer the Piatigorsky. It's not a piece that I return to very often, finding it rather discursive and directionless, so will try to listen (or Listen Again in this case) to see if the reviewer can show me the way in.

I wonder how much notice they get of the winner, so they can update their site?

Indeed. And it's not often I want to rush out (metaphorically) and buy the recommended CD. But it's going to be my very next click.
Personally, I've always rated the viola concerto the best of Walton's 3, but the Watkins/LSO sound has put this in a new light. BTW, don't like Walton's 'new' ending.

Very well worth your listening time I would suggest.I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
