Well quite. My assumption is that the vendor is throwing that in. I wonder who the performers are.

I don't think Loughran ever recorded it - he did record the Brahms violin concerto with Maurice Hasson though

I recall a docudrama about the first play-through of the Eroica, using suitable actors and JEG forces. Extremely good as I remember.

'twas mentioned earlier in the thread, replete with link to YouTube access to the production in question, I think. I'll have a look and link back to it if i find it.

[Ah, it's posts #156, #158 and #161, with the latter having the link to the YouTube version of the drama.]

My desultory initial bid not having been exceeded, the box was withdrawn from sale by the putative vendor on the claimed grounds that they were found to be faulty. However, today I found the boxed set of LPs, without any programme booklet but apparently in good condition, in the Windsor Oxfam shop. The set had no price label so the sales volunteer suggested £8.99 for the 7 discs, which I readily agreed to.

I found an old CD buried in a pile, Jascha Horenstein leading the Vienna Pro Musica (whatever that was)on Vox, early 50s mono. It's really quite bracing and exciting, something of a cross between the Furtwangler 1944 recording and Toscanini with the BBC, only in much better sound.

In the Winchester Oxfam shop the other day i spotted Klemperer's Eroica on vinyl offered at £120. I was quite surprised... what do folks-who-know think of that price? I assume someone there knows the market. (It so happens that I hugely admire that version.)

I dont know, but this seems to be a rare first UK pressing, in a rather nice sleeve, KB. Prices look to be £50 to £150.

Plenty of other vinyl versions around at sensible prices, by the look of it.

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

                          I think this is it

                          and you must remember this?
Very useful for the times when folks insist that orchestras play at A=440

A chronological survey of the opening chords of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony

Is the Krivine box still out of circulation . I was lucky enough to get one from amazon.fr at a low price but have not had the chance to listen to any of the performances yet .

Fascinating. The modern orchestras were at least close to one another, but the HIPP ones seemed less so.

33CX1346 was indeed an excellent version but I am more than content to listen to the CD - available as part of a (now Warner ) boxed set for under £16 inc postage.
