    Incredible effort, EA

Perhaps NK should take the whole CD Review programme to complete his survey...

      I have the following recordings:
      VPO, Furtwangler
      VPO, Kleiber
      VPO, Schmidt-Isserstedt
      VPO, Bohm
      VPO, Bernstein,
      VPO, Abbado

Is there a pattern here? (I also have Leipzig Gewandhaus, Masur, but I've never listened to it, the reason being that the only non-VPO performance I've heard was one I was actually playing in, and I was frustrated in not being able to play on a Viennese oboe in the big solo in the finale.)

It would take 147 hours just to listen to all the recordings - plus a bit more for the multiple Furtwanglers, Karajans, Klemperers...

... the Yuri Martynov is lovely; every home shd have it.

I also have enjoyed the CDs of Cyprien Katsaris in the Liszt versions of the Beethoven Symphonies

I have accumulated ten versions of this symphony on LP over the years, including two not on the list, presumably because they arent available on CD:

BBCSO cond. Colin Davis (Philips 1970)
VPO cond. Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt (Decca 1966)

I'm surprised the Schmidt-Isserstedt version isnt available, it was quite highly regarded at the time.

With acknowledgements to Basil Fawlty, I think?

(In a similar, but more humble, way to Ludders nicking from Bastien & Bastienne, to keep things on topic.)

Oh yes! ... I knew it was some absolute bastard from the pantheon of BBC Comedy!

It is. I missed it off the original list by mistake. Up to 178 (or 186)
