I just hope she's not in the House of Bruar.

Budapest Festival Orchestra, Ivan Fischer was displayed on the R3 website as the winner before the end of the review.

Not quite as "live" as you think.

It could have been live, but with someone letting cats out of the bag in advance!

I'm sure it was live, but I wonder how much it was pre-scripted.

Rob C wore the trousers, thank God. But I find myself minding that the recommended version is unavailable. So not quite all the boxes ticked, Rob.

I notice that some liked the Karajan and Stokowsky sounds. Not me. Far away from the 'Hungarian-ness' of the piece IMVHO.

But at least it will become available later this year as part of a budget boxed set!

Yet Presto seem to be offering it, downloads and all. Does not compute.

...by which time we'll have forgotten about it and our Amazon piggy bank will have run dry.

Really? Please do offer a link. I can only find the forthcoming 3 disc set which has the Miraculous Mandarin but not, from the Presto listing, the Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta. Otherwise it's the Kocsis/HNPO that gets their promotion.

I think Presto is offering the runner up (Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Zoltan Kocsis).

I didn't think this BaL was all that enjoyable to listen to today. Maybe I was missing something?

No it wasn't really was it? I think some relief was felt that the annoying dialogue format wasn't as awful as it sometimes is. I really don't see the point of it though. Apart from anything else, the time wasted in chat...maybe only a few seconds here and there...could be devoted instead to a few more extracts and/or versions.

I did quite like Rob's comment that [roughly] 'the trouble with BAL is that you can tick all the boxes and come up with the wrong total'.

I certainly enjoyed it and felt that AM was drawing out extra insights from RC and even making good points of his own. Ardcarp's point about time wasted by talking is surely mitigated by the fact that the slot was the best part of an hour, about 15' more than they usually allow a solo presenter.

Re the non-availability of the top choice: it doesn't help either that the 2nd choice costs nearly £30 from the river-people Think I'll wait for that bargain box, though I already have several of Fischer's other Bartok discs.

I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
