Another satisfied Café Zimmermann customer here, have not felt the need to seek out new ones (or re-listen to Hogwood and Harnoncourt, whom I've got on CD somewhere) since acquiring them.

I didn't realise there were so many of us, maybe I should find a new favourite recording in order to be different

I find the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra very satisfying. However, like all ensembles these days, they include every possible repeat. One day I'm going to sit down and edit some of them out!

Maybe they were as Bach intended but I find some HIPP versions too clever and ornamented!

Café Zimmermann, Cali? Cool! I'll have to investigate! I have the old and imo still very good and very much non-HIPP of ASMF/Marriner.(But I enjoy it!)
          Don’t cry for me
I go where music was born

                  I think they go:

                  1970 (issued 1971) on Decca
                  1978 on Philips
                  1985 on EMI

tigajen, I have that one on the original Argo LPs. The second version was issued in 1978, on Philips with Nicholas Kraemer (harpsichord) and William Bennett (flute). The third version was on EMI Classics in 1984, with Alastair Ross on harpsichord and Bennett again on flute. I only know this because I have a book "Marriner and the Academy, a record partnership" by Philip Stuart.

I was wondering more whether anyone had any views on the comparative merits of these. I have the Argo one mentioned by tigajen.

...and me and I don't think the later ones significantly improved on them.

...and me. And the first ones are for me also the most attractive
