I'll be travelling to the Lowrey in Salford while this BaL is being broadcast. But it's one I don't want to miss.
BaL 5.07.14 - Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice

Thoroughly enjoyed this BaL. As always, Simon Heighes sounded easygoing and flippant-ish but all the points were very simply and precisely made, although his final choice was rather too obvious from early on. This is the (promotional) video of the winner.
I think I’ll stay with a CD. I’m not sure if I want to be watching action packed stage performance. Besides, I much prefer the voice and the singing of Bernarda Fink to Bejun Mehta’s (to me) super-dramatic singing.

Black Swan
I agree with all as well. I am stuck at home waiting for a delivery and this morning's program made it much more bearable. I am not moved to run out and buy another Orfeo and Euridice. But I am temped by the Abbado Bruckner 9 as well as the Disc of the Week Michael Tilson Thomas West Side Story.

Must be me but this piece leaves me totally cold and Mr Heighes's quick-fire extracts didn't do anything to warm me up.
Nice cheap one!"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
