Well spotted, I wasn't paying sufficient attention! Yes, that box has proven to be the best bargain of the year so far for me - listened to the Rameau this evening, very beautiful and goes straight on my ever-growing "must buy" list (though I gather this recording is sadly deleted). Currently enjoying the Couperin Pieces de clavecin on the same disc. Haven't tried the Pleyel disc yet, but really enjoyed Jacobs' take on Haydn's "Oxford" symphony earlier.

Back on topic, I have the 1924 and 1928 suites on a bargain H Mundi 2 CD set played by William Christie, who hasn't been mentioned yet. I haven't played them for ages, so presumably wasn't bowled over.

On piano, which I think as far as Rameau is concerned, is rather more difficult to bring off than say JSB, Angela Hewitt, is a persuasive advocate for Rameau's music. This is on Hyperion.

MickyD - I'm a great Kuijken admirer; but didn't know about his en Concerts recording. The superb Rousset et al disc has been alone on the shelf for eleven years: about time I got it a mate!

It is IMHO a rather wonderful 'cello Concerto.....

If my memory serves me correctly, the Christie recording was reliable enough and at that time he was recording works on a splendid instrument made by William Dowd. The best of all was a single disc of works by Fischer, which I still treasure....a magical recital.

... my preferences wd be Scott Ross, Christophe Rousset, Kenneth Gilbert.

It's marvellous music - and great fun to play...

But has anyone heard the Sophie Yates discs on Chandos? They are posted on YouTube and sound very fine.

Sophie Yates will be playing Pièces de clavecin on Early Music Show this coming Sunday

Sophie Yates visits The Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments in Edinburgh to play extracts from Rameau's Pièces de clavecin on three extraordinary double-manual French harpsichords made in the late 1700s and fully restored to playing condition.[…]

Wow, how's that for a happy coincidence? Thanks ds, another programme I would otherwise have missed.

Both recordings I have seem excellent to me. Sophie Yates Vol 2 on Chandos Chaconne (on offer at Presto till tomorrow). I have also enjoyed listening to the Pieter-Jan Belder 3 CD set - great value on Brilliant.

I already have Rousset, but I'm tempted to get Sophie Yates' set...I like her playing a lot and the Chandos team always give her a terrific recording.

Well done Alps...you need to add Jan-Pieter Belder's complete set on Brilliant Classics.

If it weren't for the fact that he totally ruined my favourite Radio station, I'd quite like Nicholas Kenyon. As a reviewer he seems engaged, open-minded and enthusiastically communicative.
