Well, all but one of my seven commercial recordings are still in the running. (Not sure what that says for my status as collector Probably not a lot)

Those in coming under starter's orders: Beecham (BBC live recording), Gardiner, Kleiber, Klemperer (the usual EMI stereo), Norrington and Solti.
One that seems to have fallen by the wayside: RLPO/ Mackerras.
Plus one non-commercial (BBC MM): BBCPO/ Noseda.
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Ah, following a sudden brainwave, have now discovered where I filed the Antonini. The Kammerorchesterbasel/Antonini survey has a somewhat disjointed recording history. 1 & 2 were issued on SACD by Oehms. 3 & 4 followed, again SACD, but on Sony. Then came 5 & 6, also on Sony but limited to Red Book CD only. Now 7 & 8 have been released, again by Sony, and again as CD only. I have 1 to 6, and am considering getting 7 & 8 but I'm not in a hurry, though if the price goes the way of that now asked for 3 & 4 I should perhaps not wait too long.

Good to see this wonderful symphony as a subject for BaL so soon after my thread. I was inspired to start that thread by listening to the recording by Karl Böhm and the VPO.

I've got a fair proportion of the recordings listed so I'm not really in the market for another.

Pet's recent thread on Beethoven 2 was particularly notable for discussion of the difficulties for the horns in it. Here's a link to that thread: http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...-Symphony-No-2

I've got 2 of the recordings listed, so I am not really in the market for a third one, I'm afraid

I always like what Abbado did with the CoE. I have a few recordings of theirs, like a couple of Schubert CDs.

Surely a trip to the charity shop in order, Roehre?

Err, I think I'm being stupid - where do you find the list of RC's top 20 shortlist?

                          Let me guess:

                          NBC, Toscanini
                          NYPO, Walter
                          Philharmonia, Karajan
                          RPO, Beecham
                          Phil., Klemperer
                          VPO Bohm
                          BPO, Abbado
                          SCO, Mackerras
                          LCP, Norrington
                          Concertgebouw, Jochum

                          Plus another 10...

...unless our spy has inside info...

I don't think Toscanini can be in the running with scratchy old 78s - however well they may claim to be remastered. So let's replace him with Solti.
Beecham is surely pushing it a bit, too.....

What about Cluytens. Now - he has to be in with a shout!

I'm just trying to be inside Rob's head. I think he is likely to choose one or two historical issues.

                                Even in Mozart Bbm?
