My approach is to ignore the slew of ‘suggested’ stuff and head straight for the stations/schedules to find what you want - then (when connected to Wifi) use the download button just under the programme title. You can then just click on ‘My Sounds’ (bottom of the page, towards the right) to find a collection of your downloaded programmes which you can listen to when and where you want (and whether or not connected - e.g. on journeys).

      .

Just beware of the frequent 30-day expiry dates (after which they just disappear from your downloads)

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Even more so when accessed in combination with get_iplayer on a computer.

However, the freeware program get_iplayer reminds you of the obligation to delete, unless you have moved the files in the interim, but does not enforce such deletion. It saves in m4a format from which the original 320kbps aac file can be extracted by Yamb (free software) for nondestructive editing with mp3directcut (also free). Another advantage of get-iplayer is that you do not have to mess around logging in to the the BBC to copy the PID. You just copy and paste it into the get_iplayer command line.

Going through my CDs I find I have rather a lot of recordings including the O'Hara/Judd that was on Tring. A much underrated pianist its an excellent performance.

Just listened to Joanna McG's excellent review. However was any recording considered that has been released since the last BaL on the work?

Yes Hough and Volodos? .Much was made of Volodos who is a bit all fingers / no soul IMV. No mention of Rana or Trpescki who have both done excellent versions.

Ah yes Hough, Volodos was recorded in 2002, perhaps it wasn't released by the last programme?

Hough was recorded in 2009 long before the 2014 BAL ?

The only version of note I can think of since 2014 is Beatrice Rana's but she did not get a mention.

Can’t believe it was such a long time ago …

Regarding Gerstein, he has, in fact, recorded the 1879 version twice. In addition to the live one with Gaffigan, there is another in the Bychkov boxed set of symphonies and piano concertos. See, for instance, https://kirillgerstein.com/ventures/...iano-concerto/

Volodos was released in 2012 not 2002.

Looking at the Presto site it seems relatively few new as distinct from reissued of this piece in the last eight years.

I got the recording date of 06/2002 from Musicweb site, apologies if that's wrong (or perhaps it was just released much later)
