If you write your views clearly on a piece of paper and display it in your window, passers-by will have an opportunity to take account of your views on the various recordings of Elgar's Scenes from the Saga of King Olaf.

EA's joke was perhaps undermined by the work chosen - if it had been Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez I suspect I would have fallen for it !

Yes, but with having to compile a record-length list for Tchaik P.C.1, I wanted the shortest possible alternative.

Indeed, and his "In the South" is truly volcanic. Love it.

I'm just hoping I haven't put any stupid ideas into R3's heads. They already have unnecessary texts and tweets on CD review.

They could have discussed Milos Karadaglich's fingernails (not for the first time )

Not in the same league as Silvestri and Barbirolli's live recording in my opinion.

Superb Cockaigne, possibly the best I've heard.

Sara Mohr-Pietsch will play the Best Bits of the work, and Katie Derham will ask listeners to tweet their suggestions for the final recommendation.

                          Available recordings:-

Teresa Cahill, Philip Langridge, Brian Rayner-Cook, LPO & Chorus, Vernon Handley
Well, can't say I'm surprised as the beeb likes to get people who know nothing to spout their views on every concieveable subject. It had to happen sooner or later with Radio 3 music.

Hey, it was only a joke. It isn't really going to happen.

                            Pinch yourself.

Well, it wasn't April Fools day? But the joke may really happen as both these people are put up as experts by the beeb. But since the R3 audience (present company excepted) is shall we say, less experienced in the arts etc. than of yore, then I suppose it's OK.

I've just switched off the dreadful programme being broadcast at the moment which I think may be "Breakfast" (Essential classics with some young woman - oops!). (it's more like a dog's dinner) although I see it has the Borodin Quartet featured next so I may switch back on, in the hope that the announcers will keep their traps shut about their opinions.
