A lot of that discussion consists of complaining about the programme though
I disagree - there is much discussion of the pieces to be reviewed - the criticism of the programme is usually immediately after the programme and short-lived and then it is back to the music and OK strays off topic but is that a bad thing - I sometimes think it is like conversation in the pub!

Fair dos
I do enjoy reading the BAL threads just can't stand the programme
I'm in the 'bring back interpretations on record' camp

So BaL remains a fine agent provocateur.... (it never really had a golden age, but if that is conceivable, it was when there were far fewer recordings... and more contributors from Gramophone to cover them, of course....)...
So just listen all you can to the given works, and get commenting!
(But if you think its all over....stick to Gramophone Collection...)
…and Alpie’s brilliant lists are a great launchpad for discussion ofveach programme.
Listening to BAL long term is like supporting your local football team; some Saturdays they play badly, sometimes they have disasterous seasons, but every week you are back watching them come rain come shine. And then sometimes they repay you by beating a Premier League side in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Well maybe...

They’ve even introduced a referee for us to complain about.

I think that is a good analogy - the team I support seems to have played badly week in week out for about 3 seasons now and havevjust been knocked out in Round 1 of the cup. Listening to BAL comes with less stress!
I did not get much out of it either. All the examples played sounded very good, apart perhaps from Bernstein, but I got no feeling why one was preferred to another, or why the winner “won” , just a lot of cheerful chat by both McGregors.
No - she reduced it to five - Reiner,Fischer,Kocsis,Bernstein and Malkki - and then there were two Fischer defeating Reiner . No explanation why Solti who she raved about early on did not make the last five or how she got down to two .
This is I think the big problem of twofers - all the chat precludes this sort of analysis.
