Cd Review and Building a Library

I was thinking, like with some fellow members here are saying, that these two, well programmes, within a programme, should have a life of their own now? It's when you get such popular works, as the last one, Elgar's Symphony No.2, which requires a more detailed approach, than some others get. Any thoughts?

Definitely.

I'd go so far as to say that there should be two Bals per week and they should be a couple of hours long. Or even three.

Why not? That programme is as cheap as chips to produce.

If they can't up it, we could do it for them.

Never mind dog of two heads, let's make it four on the panel, and rotate it amongst ourselves.

First programme - Dream Of Gerontius, Elgar.

To me if its MP3 FLAC LP CD they are all records other media are avaliable


The BBC should not alter the format of the Saturday morning review program at all because if they do they will just make it like the rest of R3 a waste of time about they only programme I listen when I can get a siganl without drop outs that is
Is it really called 'CD Review' a bit out of date but maybe good that they just havent changed it yet
Is most Classical music still bought on CD

I would have thought so.

Mine certainly is - or on the printed page!

It occurs to me that I've been listening to BaL since 1974 - and even with its obvious faults, it's still one of the highlights of my listening week; I'd actually be very sorry if it ended. I don't know how it can be "saved", though - when there were only ten or fewer available versions of a work, the 45 minutes could be thorough. Now it seems that it would take 45mins just to read out the variously-available recordings. And, when recordings that ten years ago were awarded the laurels are ignored completely - you gradually get the idea that, whichever version you buy, it'll be somebody's favourite - and the hated version of somebody else.

Me too. And I've been with it for a decade longer than ferney. It is what it is (and that has changed somewhat over time). One person's opinion. Not mine. Nor yours. And 45-60 minutes is enough already.

Not only have Classical Music listeners remained faithful to CD, but they have almost sigle handedly kept SACDs around.

We do need a more detailed insight of programme content as far as the BaLs, as in that French programme that certain Forum members listen to?
