Building a Library - General Discussion

    Hi everyone

Despite having been an avid recorder of BaL for some years now (going back to the 1990s), I find I am missing some episodes, and I wondered if anyone out there might have them in MP3 format (to swap or whatever) please?

Off the top of my head, I am looking for:-

Haydn String Quartet op.76/1 (April 2005)
    Mozart String Quartet No.23 in F major, K590 "Prussian No.3" (9th February 2008)
Mozart String Quintet No.4 in G minor, K516 (February 2005)
Beethoven piano sonata No 17, op.31/2 "The Tempest" (27th September 2008)

Please feel free to email or PM me if you can help: many, many thanks!

I am happy to reciprocate with any I might have in return!

    Bws,

    Karafan

Sorry - meant to add, it doesn't matter if you don't have it in MP3 as I can convert from tape or MiniDisc and will of course ensure safe return of an original recording to you. Thanks

Why on earth are these not available online permanently? It's not like they ever play so much as a complete movement, so surely the record companies can't mind?

My thoughts exactly, Mathias. Unless of course, they feel it would be misleading as "currently available" recordings may not be so in the future - though a simple caveat would explain this.

I di hear last week that plans were afoot to make more of the BBC's radio archive available to permanently re-hear or download....let's hope they include R3 in this. Just think of the old 'Vintage Years' shows etc. that could be made available!

R3 absolutely is included in this, but it isn't at this stage clear what will be available.

I see Amazon have finally woken up to BaL!

Or the BBC has woken up to Amazon? But then, I thought they were not allowed to advertise?

They aren't allowed to advertise their own products (e.g. magazines) on the BBC but they can advertise programmes. I imagine this is part of the marketing drive for R3.

Call for more variety in BAL

Over two months into the new year, and not a single pre-19th century work featured. No concertos, either.

Can we also have more of the discussion format with an informed guest? I enjoyed that this morning.

I was a little confused by the Bruckner discussion this morning. While being of interest, no doubt, to Brucknerians, it was hardly BaL, was it? Surely it was little different to the discussion between Andrew and Ed Seckerson recently on new Mahler recordings, and therefore should have been allocated a similar slot, and not marketed as BaL.

A point I've been labouring on the thread about the programme itself, but which didn't seem to find favour with a number of boarders. It wasn't a BAL, full stop. It was a very interesting programme though.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

My main point was about the excessive focus so far this year on the late 19th century idiom, 1839 to 1915 to be precise.

Perhaps they done this deilberate;ly? Focusing on a certain time span in more detail?

The trouble is, unfortunately, we dont have thye input of the CDReview team on here to inform us!
