Re. Cresswell, (I realise it's off topic!). The BBCSSO play a lot of his music which can be impenetrable! However, this disc is very interesting. The piano concerto is super.

Thanks, I will definitely pursue this.

Back on topic, I really enjoyed this Bal. Last week I bought the Bowman/Hogwood Vivaldi Stabat Mater and although I have only played it twice, I really like it. Will give it another spin on the cans at the gym this afternoon.

The Pinnock sounds tempting, but given the run on Amazon immediately following the end of today's Bal, the cheapest available copy is now about £2.50 dearer than it was at 10 O'clock!

(although a different issue on 1 CD is available for about five and half quid, excl. P&P)

And now the old 'hooting' canard. Does Blaze hoot? Does Chance? No. They don't.

Michael Chance, in a photo-finish with Robin Blaze.

BBC Music Mag not so enthusiastic. It's probably worth waiting till Monday to judge for oneself.

Loads do though. No they do not hoot but they have a sound that is reminiscent of an imitation of a woman's voice that Mena does not have and nor IMO does Iestyn Davies or andreas scholl

Hang on a minute - does this mean that women hoot?

                    Or what does it mean?

Fascinating programme, I thought. My only objection is to the horrible verse translations she offered us.

No , not at all . I dislike hooty contraltos as much as hooty countertenors. I suppose I prefer a purer voiced countertenor to those that sound more like an alto female singer .

I didn't hear the end. Just as far as Andreas Scholl.

Ha ha, bet there aren't many in the gym who listen to Vivaldi's Stabat Mater, Beefy!

HeHe! Probably not. I only do cardio-vascular stuff, no macho-weights nonsense, and it really goes well with exercise!

I would love to know how you can do your exercises to this repertoire! I go to the gym three times a week, and though I am no fan of modern music, there is no doubt that the incessant beat of it gets me moving...how you can do that to languid Vivaldi amazes me!!

Music inhibits training. Realistically you can only do it to the speed of the music.
