Well, I did 40 minutes on the cross-trainer while I was listening to V's SM, twice-through (I get less than good results in the swimming pool).

My friend's son was on the machine next to me and we started at precisely the same time. He had no music, just the house stuff coming over the loudspeakers. We set the machine at the same level. At the end, my readout said I'd burnt 380 calories and an average RPM of 61, his said 378 calories and an average RPM of 58. He's 19 and a black belt judo player, I'm a 53 year old has-been. Languid music is not a show stopper, but see my response to Alpensinfonie.

I think it is an influencing factor, not a determining one.

Last week I nearly blew a gasket on the cross-trainer whilst listening to Can's 'Mother Sky'! So yes, I will not argue to strongly against you!

I felt no risk of overdoing it during today's Stabat Mater.

Extraordinary talents you have, Beefy! For me, disco music is so great at the gym...it gets the heart racing and the body moving. I simply couldn't imagine doing my gym to the Stabat Mater! But hey...in our mid-fifties, please, we are not has-beens!

          I can't stand stupid gym-style disco music.

That depends on what one has done in the past
