Not forgetting just a few of the bassoon concertos recorded by Danny Bond and the AAM some years ago, they are nice too, great fun.

Not sure why some people have to denigrate the music of composers they don't happen to like.

Sounds as if you are taking a rather eccentric - not to say downright bizarre - position here. Are you seriously suggesting that members ought to restrict themselves to positive/approving comments? Some clarification would be welcome........as would a reason or two in support of your position (whatever that is).

I just thought the vitriol was going a bit far.

My position? In my music student days, there was general atmosphere of putting down one another's favourite music, as well as blasting fellow musicians at every opportunity. Not everyone was like that, but vitriolic comments were rife, though quite unnecessary. Speaking personally, I could say I was bored by Bruckner. This is not the same as saying Bruckner is a boring composer. Ditto "awful bassoon and mandolin concertos".

            ... as can Alex Ross.

I don't know many bassoon concerti but do remember a most enjoyable Supraphon LP with the redoubtable Ars Rediviva from years ago which I still have but haven't played for ages.

Cd Review 05/14. The Cresswell sounded interesting. Anyone familiar with it?

Did Carlos Mena even get a mention ? I had to take a telephone call in the middle but it seemed as if throughout she was only considering Blaze or Chance or briefly Bowman

                      Yes. Far too much vitriol.

No, but I agree that it sounded well worth checking out.

Ah, Carlos Mena: the counter-tenor for people who don't really like counter-tenors.

Seems to be two Naxos CDs of his music available.
