Perhaps not, but to leave these recordings unopened and, more to the point, unlistened to, would be a pretty major mistake.

It's possible to listen to these CDs with a streaming subscription - you don't have to buy the downloads. Indeed I'm listening to Symphony 5 right now with my Basic subscription. I'm being gradually persuaded to go for the box - but I was trying to be "good" and not buy a lot more. I've failed miserably in the last week or two.

The (in)*Complete BP/Abbado Philips and DG set is at an attractive price on amazon.co.uk at the moment. Rather less outlay than from other European Amazon sites.

* Beethoven 1-8 are represented only by the Rome recordings. The earlier Berlin set is missing.

Many more than that, and even more who can listen to CDs accompanied by paperwork in French. Since the Real Chopin, I have a feeling they will have installed an algorithm to detect gross pricing errors prior to dispatch. It is no accident that the transaction is not completed until that stage.

Got the Badura Skoda box and it seems to have gone down - mine worked out at 23.58 in euros.

Picked up mine from the butler* today. I note that 18 of the 20 CDs are of recordings recently re-mastered at Abbey Road.

* The name of one of the local Amazon Locker locations.
