I didn't realise you were joining the retro vinyl craze, Bryn. A DIY project perhaps?

I do have a vinyl turnable DIY project, but it is simply the re-wiring and general spiffing up of my Thorens/Linn/AT95E set-up. Lazy Susan in holding up under Herbie's weight very well, though she does get in a bit of a spin now and then.

I have just noticed that Brilliant Classics have updated their Haydn Edition with the addition of 10 extra discs. The Strings Quartets are now complete (3 of the extra discs), as are the Masses and Notturni. Also added is the Opera L'Anima del Filosofo. The best price appears to be £97.25 including p&p from an amazon.co.uk marketplace vendor.

I already have the earlier 150 disc version, so cannot justify getting the newer 160 disc version.

I treated myself to an early Christmas present of this, from MDT - still the best price I have seen :-

I had a look around the various European Amazon sites and found that amazon.de was offering the set for €89.99 but with the provision that it was not available for dispatch to the U.K. However, I did not at first spot the restriction and went ahead and initiated the order. To my surprise the price shown at the check-out stage had risen by €0.75. Once p&p was added the total in U.K. currency was £89.32, but the order appears to have been accepted for dispatch to my U.K. address. Others might be interested.
The Harnoncourt box arrived today. Unfortunately it is one of those LP sized efforts with four compartments precariously holding the the card slip-cased discs. The hard-back book is pretty impressive. The card slip-cases do have labelled spines, so will suit transfer to a shelf or transparent plastic box such as can be found in some 'Pound shops'. THe set is looking to be well worth the price. On bit of silliness was the card posted through the letterbox announcing that the parcel had been left with a neighbour. On the card was the suggestion that in future I might like to use an Amazon pick-up point. I'd love to, as I do with items ordered from amazon.co.uk, but this was ordered from amazon.de, and though actually dispatched from the UK, there was no option to use a UK Amazon pick-up facility.

None left. It is worth keeping an eye on this seller as this is the second tranche of this box = the first was on Monday when I bought mine so there is perhaps the possibility of a third.

No, mine is 1793. Two earlier and least it would’ve been the year Mozart died.

I think that my set (in Scotland, so I can't confirm my memory) is 1778 - I remember thinking that it was one before Bryn (1779)

1779. Not a good year for this set. No Haydn 79, nor Mozart K. 364 nor even K. 365 (the latter being of questionable attribution to that year).

That's a good buy if you want that much Handel - I'm not sure that I do. The mp3s are cheaper still - but I don't normally recommend that. These are also on Amazon Unlimited if anyone subscribes to that, so it's possible to sample before taking the plunge for the Flac downloads. I couldn't see these on Qobuz, though the complete Haydn is there.
