        Hiya CB,

And all I ever see in Charity Shops are CDs by the Sugarbabes, Richard Clayderman, Spice Girls, James Last and the like!

Henley has a good Oxfam for serious music - I have picked up several interesting things in there over the years - and make a point of checking it out every couple of weeks. Reading Oxfam is also good and even bigger, for anyone local to that area. The Gurrelieder was very much an impulse buy as I don't know it particularly well -!

Probably some these items should be on the Charity Shop thread but my recent bargains in Helston was Boulez Bruckner 8 for £1.

There's a particular series of classical music CDs that I've only ever seen in charity shops - I'm beginning to think that they are made specificaly for sale there.

Never seen anything by The Like in the charity shops round here.

Might be worth a punt though, if you do spot a CD, the amazon reviews are great.

( on spotify if you want to check them out)

OK, use 'et al' instead of 'the like'.

York usually isn't much good for classical cds for a reasonable price in charity shops but I found last weekend Schubert symphony no.6 and Gal symphony no.1 for £1.50 which was a pleasant surprise!
                          Best regards,
                          Jonathan

Not physical CDs but QOBUZ has the Jansons RCO 'live' 13 disc set (the DVD of Mahler 4 is omitted) as lossless 44.1/16 downloads, replete with digital booklet, for €19.99. The CDs + DVD cost around five times that on amazon.co.uk, and that's a low price in itself.

This might actually induce me to join Qobuz - though I've not quite worked out what business model they are using. Can any Qobuz member buy downloads, or are there different levels of membership? I noticed something yesterday with different pricing, and mention of "Sublime" which I didn't have time to check out.

I only found this particular bargain this morning. The download (I chose FLACs, though various lossless options are available) and they came to just under 4GB. I have a basic 320kbps mp3 streaming subscription. Others here use "Sublime" I think. They would be able to offer advice on that option. You do not need to subscribe to download the Jansons/RCO set at the price quoted. You might have to email QOBUZ to enable downloads to the UK. It's a couple of years since I first downloaded from QOBUZ, so they may have dropped the need to email them for UK downloads.
