Originally posted by Don Petter View PostMy post from the Amazon Marketplace Sellers thread, 5th Jan, regarding seller dodax:
I am in the middle of a spat with them at the moment. I ordered a Schnabel box from them on eBay on 26th November and they sent me a CD of 'Rock 'n' Roll Classics'. When told, they said they had no more Schnabels in stock, so would I agree to cancel the transaction. When I went to eBay to do so I found that eBay advised not to cancel until I had a refund, and worse, dodax-uk had said the cancellation was because I had 'ordered the wrong item by mistake or changed my mind after ordering'.
dodax-uk asked me to return the wrong item, which I did (cheapest post, to Germany, £3.70) on 11th December. I have now at last received the purchase price refund, but have still not received the £3.70, which they claim to have paid on 19th December.
An eBay complaint is imminent. I'm not that worried about £3.70, but the whole experience has p****d me off somewhat.
This dispute has rumbled on without any change in the status quo.
The rumbling has taken the form of two more unanswered emails to dodax, and three email exchanges with eBay, by the last of which they had been persuaded to read what I actually said, instead of what they thought I might be saying.
Their response is now that because the payment I made to the Post Office to return the wrong item did not go through either eBay or PayPal they cannot (or cannot be bothered) to enforce reimbursement from the vendor. There had, of course, been no option to pay the return by those methods.
Their advice, therefore, is to keep pestering the vendor and also give them a suitably negative feedback (both of which I have already done).
So be warned that the costs of returning items to a vendor are not covered by the much vaunted eBay guarantees!
Final success!
I seemed to have exhausted all avenues and the loss of £3.70 wasn't going to keep me awake at night, when I thought of one last possibility. While all my dealings had been with dodax-uk, the address to which I had to return the wrong CD was dodax in Germany, who I assume are the parent company (hence the minimum postage of £3.70 airmail).
So I emailed dodax-gmbh via their website, giving a resumé of the story to date. By return, I have had an apology and refund (albeit for £3.34 after exchange).

This sort of thing is a right pain in the neck It's sadly an all too familar experience. I was advised by a trusted friend that if the item is less than a £5 don't bother getting worked up over it. To let it go and move on. I believe he's right.

Might be good practice if ever the stakes are higher, though.

for £9.99 + P&P. As my Verdi shelves are a bit thin I thought it might just be worth a punt
...though I shall probably regret the absence of libretti, even if I can find them online, as no doubt I can.
I do like to know exactly what they're squawking aboutI keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I think there's also a Puccini set - probably £6.99 - see http://www.selections.com/puccini-the-operas-13cds.html (13 CDs)
I've been informed about the following, plus some others which I found mixed in. I've marked with **, *? for ones I might be interested in. The ? indicates "vintage/historical" performances. The Shostakovich seems of particular interest. I think most of these have some merit, though many of us will have other or better versions of some of the more popular pieces.
*Zelenka Orchestral works http://www.selections.com/zelenka-or...orks-5cds.html £8.99
The following are all 99p - in some cases for 2 CDs!
**Shostakovich The Gamblers http://www.selections.com/shostakovi...The%20Gamblers
Dvorak Requiem 2CDs - http://www.selections.com/dvorak-req...ing%20Software
Bach Brandenburgs 1-3 http://www.selections.com/bach-j-s-b...ing%20Software
*Brahms Violin Concerto + Double Concerto http://www.selections.com/brahms-vio...ing%20Software (Verhey + Starker in the double concerto)
*Schubert Winterreise http://www.selections.com/schubert-w...ing%20Software Christian Hilz baritone, Eckart Sellheim piano (Brilliant Cl)
*? Walton Facade - Pears, Lambert, Beecham - http://www.selections.com/walton-fac...ing%20Software
*Grieg Piano Music - Pletnev - http://www.selections.com/grieg-pian...ing%20Software
Rimsky-Korsakov The Tsar's Bride 2CDs - http://www.selections.com/rimsky-kor...ing%20Software
*Tchaikovsky Piano Pieces -Pletnev - http://www.selections.com/tchaikovsk...ing%20Software
*Richard Dering Motets http://www.selections.com/richard-de...ing%20Software
Plus - last time I looked one could buy 3 x squirrel proof bird feeders from the Garden section for £9.99. That might encourage squawking in the garden!
