Although it all seems to be out-of-copyright material, the transfers appear to have been digitally cleaned up and, I suspect given a dollop of something extra. Given the restricted sound quality of mp3s, the results seem to be pretty OK. I did a quick comparison of the Karajan Britten Frank Bridge with the BNF version on Qobuz. The classical music mobile version is in a different league, transfer- and sound-wise, and, if you want the performance, a bargain at the very low price (the BNF version is pretty dim - they could learn some lessons from their BL colleagues). I also tried cmm's transfer of two stereo recordings which I know well - Paul Paray's Chabrier and Hans Rosbaud's Webern Six Pieces for Orchestra. Both have the same virtues as the Britten and sound more than acceptable. So, a very good resource of some interesting works and performances, imv. Thanks, TS, for reminding us of it.

Seems to be a recent release and can be had for under £60 (marketplace). The one user review so far suggests that it's not as interesting as the Oiseau Lyre box or the Archiv collection which emerged this year, though still worthwhile.Comment

He may be referring to the ones using period pianos—the Documents/Nuova Era issue is on modern pianos. I've only heard one fortepiano disc, w/the Fantasiestücke and Humoreske—Demus excels in both works (the Fantasiestücke on the fortepiano is one of my favourite versions of that work on any kind of instrument; the one on the Bösendorfer's not bad either) so I quite recommend it, but I wouldn't necessarily cross the street to hear his Davidsbündlertänze, for instance.Originally posted by Caliban View PostComment

I am indeed referring to the period versions recorded for DHM in the 60s, kea. He did two 2 LP sets of various Schumann piano works, including Kinderszenen, Waldszenen and Album fur die Jugend. The pianos are recorded in the most wonderful ethereal acoustic, but sadly the discs have never been re-released on CD.
