Was over £127 a few days ago!

Perhaps not fashionable these days but I couldn't give a hoot for that - I'm sorely tempted to add this set to my shelves.
Did I not suggest getting that from Italy only a week ago? - http://www.amazon.it/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_...er%2Caps%2C207

At least I mentioned that it was there, with a comment re possible old fashioned style. If there are bargains in the UK it seems a good idea to cross check with Italy at the moment.

€4.52 delivery making it £64.12 delivered (using the currency converter facility on Amazon i.e. no additional charges made by credit card company).

I should know by now never, ever to look at the bargains thread as the winking has proved so seductive that it's now on order, despite having vowed not to buy any more big boxes.

I think that Harnoncourt & Leonhardt are easy winners if the two sets were ever put into competition; but I'm so grateful to the Leusink recordings - well-judged tempi, very good recorded sound (even on the ridiculously cheap MP3s), excellent orchestral/instrumental playing, Ruth Holton in excellent voice (even better than she was for JEGgers, IMO) decent, if slightly "homely" solo voices in the other parts (reflecting what Bach might have expected from the Tenor and Bass at least - the Alto can be a bit skwarkyhooting at times, much better at others).

And then there's the choir ... quite probably the worst I've ever heard on recordings. Anything above mf and the middle register of their voices and they make a quite hideous racket! Fortunately they have comparatively little to do - and there is so much else that is so enjoyable that, at the price asked, it's an excellent bargain.

Thanks ferneyhough and AmpH for those pointers. Heavens, I'm tempted by that amazing bargain from Amazon Germany, but bearing in mind I already have the Harnoncourt in a huge box (its first manifestation), I think I'd better withhold! In the meantime, some kind soul has posted a lot of the Leusink recordings on YouTube, so that's given me some idea of them.

That's how it's gone HD 45cds of Ferenc Fricsay and the list looks so good - just hope I sussed the Italian when ordering. Thanks Hafod for the ready reckoning - you were very close!

20 Euros for 20 CDs from Qobuz. Download only I'm afraid - though at CD quality rather than compressed MP3s.
