I went for the first DG111 box of 55 cds (had very few of then already, surprisingly: 4 or 5 I think) at £70 from Play. It is a cornucopia. So far has enjoyed Kubelik/BPO in Dvorak 8 (used to have it on LP), Anne Sophie Mutter in Brahms (wonderful), Argerich in Chopin Preludes (again used to have the LP), Pires in Nocturnes, Goebel in baroque, Vivaldi Violin Concertos...only thing NOT enjoyed so far is Helmut Walcha in Bach organ music: too loud! Lots more delights to come.

Are these piano CDs worth having? http://www.selections.com/AJ040/the-...ection-100cds/ Seems good to me, at the low price - but maybe I should put my own order in first!

I was just thinking the other day about the series "Great Pianists of the 20th Century". I always meant to buy some of those, but buying all 200 would have been prohibitively expensive at the time - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_P...e_20th_Century
It'd be good if some or all of those discs could be reissued. Some of them do pop up in odd places - eBay, Amazon, but often at even more inflated prices.
In the meantime, maybe I'll just settle for this week's box. I'm sure I heard some of the Brendel Beethoven recordings which came from Vox - very good they were - I particularly liked the Waldstein. Maybe the later recordings had better audio, but some of those Vox ones showed more life I thought. Could just be memory though!
