great spot Hafod.....master and magician indeed !! Could be you !I looked at that one. As far as I can see there is a marketplace seller selling at 15.46 and the carriage seems to be £3.40 (not sure if its Euros or pounds). Is that how you see it, so it would be about 19.00 euros with carriage?

Thanks, Vints. I have just found an extract of Badura-Skoda on YouTube and it sounds quite closely recorded for my taste, though I do agree that the price is tempting (I've seen it under £22). So I would go for Bilson, too, but there is surely room for another take on these pieces - why not Brautigam? I've hugely enjoyed his recent disc of Mendelssohn Songs without Words on BIS.

I just followed Hafod's suggestion for Liszt, and it seems that the Badura-Skoda Schubert set may already be available from amazon.fr. The UK site has a delivery date in June.

Now I'm asking myself "do I really need another set, even if it is on period instruments?" I would normally try to go for period instruments, but I recently purchased Michael Dalberto's set on a modern piano, and enjoyed it. I also have others lurking - Uchida, Lupu and another recent set - Zacharias. What extra would I get from Badura-Skoda? Would that inevitably lead me to Brautigam and others?

I just bought one having spent yesterday searching for a modern 2 and 9 and finding that Walter's recordings grabbed me with far more urgency than those with the latest sonic wizardry (Fischer, Haitink/CSO, Gilbert, etc.), whereby orchestral effects come to resemble the sound FX in a modern movie theatre auditorium rather than music. Walter's readings are infused with warmth and emotion - of course, I'm preaching to the converted here. Another point is that modern singers of 'Urlicht' are generally rather galling.
