Les Preludes featured heavily in truncated form as the title music for the old Flash Gordon serials, not perhaps the ideal way to hear it, but fun!

Delicious memories; a real hoot, Ferretfancy! Larry 'Buster' Crabbe as the Flasher and Charles Middleton as the wily Emperor Ming. I've attempted to whistle the theme music during the weekly intros, recapping on the action so far. During the WW2 matinees, we used to be asked to remain seated during any air raid and we all gave a rousing cheer when the Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers serials were repeated. Heady times!

I don't know if this is a temporary pricing error, but Qobuz are currently offering the DG collection (14 discs!) of Wilhelm Kempff's concerto recordings as a lossless download (CD quality, in other words) for a paltry €9.09. I'm getting this while the going is good.

I notice that Amazon are offering an Icon box of Toscanini with the BBC SO. The information says that some of these are live performances, presumably from Queens Hall before WWII, although the Brahms could possibly be from his famous RFH appearance. Has anybody bought this box? I would appreciate any comments.

The later Brahms recordings were with the Philharmonia, IIRC.Numquam Satis!
