I put the DG box in my basket at £27.07. By the time (a few seconds later) that I got to checkout, it had gone up to £49.22! Purchase aborted.

Occasionally - VERY occasionally - I kick myself while being pleased for others. I jumped for the DG box last autumn, at it pre-release price, which seemed very reasonable then. The current price is astonishing - or insluting? Perhaps both.

Mandryka, I thought I was a bit of a maniac collector, and I do buy bargain boxes from time to time, but how do you find the time to listen to your collection? This year I am going to spend more time listening to what I already have rather than buy an extra version of A, B or C.

Incidentally I went into HMV in Oxford Street today, it was a slightly depressing experience. There are already big gaps in the shelves as they are presumably not re-stocking, and even though they are still having their sale, I followed my resolution and left empty handed.

Answer is: I don't, really. But long car journeys (work requires me to take them) help to whittle down the 'to be listened to...' pile and boxes like the Wagner ones above are easily justified when you think you've got the complete works at your fingertips and in transportable form.

Yes, HMV i looking very sorry for itself these days, as well it might. It will be VERY SAD if the flagship Oxford Street store closes, as I imagine we all have happy memories of it. I shall also miss the mirror above the escalator to the basement, which always gave me a flattering look.

Can someone remind me of the name of the used-CD shop in Waterloo (London)? I think it's been mentioned, but I neglected to make a not of the name. I hope to make a visit when I'm in London at the end of the week.
