At the time, I was looking to purchase the Campoli / Boult recording which is included in this set, but decided to get it on the Beulah disc c/w an equally good Mendelssohn VC.
Performances by Campoli are generally well worth hearing, and I believe I have one of his Mendelssohn recordings. It's one of the best ever recorded performances. The Boult/Campoli combination would have been my main reason for trying that set, so now I'll think again, and maybe try that Beulah recording.
The reviewer here doesn't seem to think that the Regis box is all bad - http://www.musicweb-international.co...lt_RRC5010.htm but does comment on the sound of the Elgar violin concerto - and remark that the Beulah recording is better.
The Beulah recording with the Elgar concerto seems relatively highly priced, but at least it's still just about available - http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Art-Camp...2529313&sr=8-2
There is also a Decca incarnation on Eloquence - but that costs more - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elgar-Violin...529665&sr=1-10 I wonder if it could ever turn up on the Australian label.
It could still be worth buying the Regis set if the price is low enough, which it probably still is, at £7.99 currently - http://www.selections.com/elgar-sir-...ucts-5cds.html despite the reservations, and getting the Beulah or Decca versions of Elgar's violin concerto as an extra.
There is another Boult/Campoli recording available at Selections - Moeran's violin concerto - http://www.selections.com/moeran-violin-concerto.html for around £6.

The Elgar was on Australian Eloquence some while ago now, and was also on Universal's ultra-bargain label:
and also in a LPO own label box.
All of these transfers as well as Beulah's are fine. Does Beulah offer a download option as well?
I also have both Mendelssohn recordings and retain a greater affection for the earlier with Van Beinum which I bought first on Decca Eclipse.
PS - The LPO's own box

If you go to a forum - eg Bargains, or Performance, you'll see a button at the top of the list of threads marked 'Post new thread'. It's in the same place as the 'reply to thread' button at the top of this page.
& welcome to the Board - I hope you get as much pleasure & knowledge from it as I do.

Would these be copy protected in any way? If not, then I'd probably copy them and play them in my car, which has a CD player which will do mp3s.

[As an afterthought, why not rip a harpsichord recording you know well and make a 320kbps mp3 of it, then decide the extent to which the codec degrades the sound?]
[[Please note, the offer ends today. I have just placed an order for NI1719 - D Scarlatti - The Complete Sonatas, NI1732 - Schubert - 11½ Piano Sonatas (Alan Marks) and NI2546 - Scott Joplin - The Complete Rags, Marches & Waltzes (William Albright).]]

Scarlatti is for me one of the most engaging and thrilling composers. There are many marvellous recordings - Scott Ross, Belder, Staier, Koopman, Hantai, Rousset, Pinnock, Zacharias, Horowitz, Mayako Sone, Linda Nicholson, Tharaud, Pletnev, Pogorelich, Tipo, Queffelec...
I acquired the Lester because I'm a sad obsessive completist when it comes to Scarlatti.
The Lester recordings are the only recordings of Scarlatti (harpsichord, fortepiano, piano, organ, guitar, accordion.... ) that have given me no joy at all. Or worse - because I expect joy from Scarlatti, listening to the Lester has proved to be a dispiriting experience. They are the only CDs I have ever thought of throwing away (but because I'm a sad obsessive completist when it comes to Scarlatti I of course still have them on the shelves. )
