I remember him when he was a young man - I suddenly feel very old
Keep on keeping on Mr Harrell
Am51 - frightening, isn't it? It's not just policemen any more. I picked up an LP with a photo of a very young Riccardo Muti on the cover doing Beethoven piano Conc 3 with Richter a week or so back. OK it's probably 30 or more years old. Another is the recently released box set of Levine doing Mahler symphonies, but the cover has a photo from the time the recordings were made. Another LP from the same haul shows a young looking Michael Tilson Thomas with an also young violinist Paul Zukofsky in Schuman's violin concerto c/w Piston's 2nd symphony.
Not much point in worrying though, can't change it.
This morning I had an email from Sainsbury's Entertainment confirming dispatch of the Blu-ray issue of Ligeti's Le Grande Macabre (a.k.a. Macacre). I'm very much looking forward to watching, and listening to, this memento of a production which was also staged at the E.N.O. to my great delight.

The production is also available in standard DVD format at the same price.
Phew, that was quick. The email notification of dispatch arrived this morning and the disc has just dropped though the letter box. That's my evening dealt with.
I can confirm that the Melos Ensemble mp3 download for £7.49 on Amazon here is exactly the same as the Melos Ensemble Icons mp3 download for £27.99 on Amazon here. The cheaper mp3s sound excellent and are transcoded at around 220kbps VBR. Great bargain for 151 separate tracks of music.
I totally agree, martin_opera. I've been listening to a lot of the music over the last few weeks and it's been a reminder to me what a superb chamber group the Melos Ensemble were. I can honestly say I have never had a better musical purchase for under £10.
Icons are on offer at good prices at Sainsburys. The Melos CDs can be bought at a better price than Amazon and although I have some of the Colin Davis already it looks good at £12.99.
