Following the clarinet theme, a box set by Reginald Kell. Perhaps only for really serious clarinet enthusiasts.

Some UK suppliers have had it, though currently I think there's a glitch in supply. Obviously go for a UK supplier if you can get it cheaply enough, otherwise buy more from the French site to reduce the postage cost on a per CD basis!

I see that the recently released compilation of all Bruno Walter's Sony Mahler recordings including two versions of No1 , No2 & 4 the awesome 1947 NYPO 5th and the 1961 9th is now available for £13 New on Amazon from a marketplace seller . I await it with impatience.

Oh joy of joys. I opened the back cover of the latest issue of IRR to find an advertisement for some new (forthcoming?) releases on the Eloquence label. The first item shown is the Archiv recording of Diabelli variations as played by Jörg Demus on Graf and Broadwood fortepianos. Something very much to look forward to spinning, once it appears in the UK.

The catalogue number is given as DG 480 3303 (2 CDs).

After getting 'lost' for a week in the delivered mail 'system' at my workplace, the discs actually got to me today. A quick scan through Beethoven suggests that the 'later' Demus recording of the work I found poorly edited mp3s of on amazon.co.uk (also to be found on the sites of other suppliers) was in fact not a later recording at all, but a re-issue under a different guise. O.k., the mp3 set also includes the Waldstein, but if your main interest is Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, I strongly suggest you get the Australian Eloquence CDs, and not the mp3s, i.e.:
