Divided in a rather random fashion between the 2 which doesn't stop duplications. I have 6 of the 10 discs in the Messiaen box already and, gulp, all of the Boulez Debussy/Ravel but they're in Scotland. No doubt someone will tell me that I should rip them all to hard disk than copy the disk but somehow it's not the same. But definitely no more Nielsen symphonies. Well, at least until the next set. And banning access to Amazon (.com, .co.uk, .fr and .de would help, never mind Hafod's discovery of .es) would help. Like drinking wine, I keep telling myself that I should give it up but I just can't seem to do it.

This board stimulates the market, I ordered this morning at £9.47 and now trading at £10.17.

The Amazon price (rather than those relating to the marketplace suppliers) has now more than quadrupled. Fortunately I got my order in while it was still at £9.47 (with "FREE Super Saver Delivery"). The order is currently shown as "Dispatching Soon".

They all seem to derive from fine recordings (mainly historical) but how good the transfers are is rather uncertain.

Dave, what's the best price, in £ and including p&p, via amazon.de? I ask because the set can be found via amazon.co.uk for £18.09 including p&p. Just search for "gustav leonhardt plays bach" without the quote marks. It is sent from Switzerland so there should be no duty to pay.

Let's hope you get all 8 CDs. Please let us know. As mentioned a while ago, my box was lacking CD 3. I am still awaiting notification by Amazon of dispatch of a replacement set.

You are right about the German site. That particular one comes out at £21.12 or thereabouts. Obviously the euro price is lower, but the postage etc. adds a bit. On the other hand, if one wanted to buy more from the site, then I believe that the per CD additional cost for delivery could make it worthwhile. The message (sadly!) is to buy more! [So much for the CDs Anonymous thread ... ] Your Swiss site would appear to be cheaper.

That is indeed my understanding. I have never had to pay any. I think they have some formal agreement with the EU with respect to such matters.

[Meanwhile, I have just emailed the supplier requesting clarification on this issue. I recall that their previous listings at the amazon.co.uk marketplace included a statement to the effect that import duty would not be charged. That statement is no longer included, so am wondering if it changed on April 1st this year, along with the arrangement re. the Channel Islands.]

That's a 36% increase. Surely duty/VAT shouldn't add that much.
If the price of £10.99 disc went up to £13.50 that would be around 22-23%, which I'd have thought more justified by the payments to HMRC.
