Seems to be £66.21 including P&P right now for the Bernstein Symphony Edition. I thought I'd give it a shot. Now for the Canadian Bruno Walter set.

Presumably the Bernstein symphony edition contains all/most of the CDs which are also in the Mahler set - which also looks like a resaonable buy for anyone who doesn't want all the symphonies in the larger set. [It does include the NYPO Mahler recordings - there is another DG set with the some other versions - not sure if that's cheaper on the German site than the regular UK one] Pretty clear that the big set is a better buy though.

I am aware of that - it has been pointed out here several times. Shouldn't really be a problem. I'll rip them all to hard drive, then file the "LP" away.

But most are only single CDs, with the exception of the Perahia Mozart, which I have already. Several of the boxes from the .de site are 10 or 15 CDs for under £20. Also - and this I don't know - is the postage pro rata if I buy more from the .de or .fr sites, or does it scale non linearly (and better than O(n))?

I must focus and place the order for the Walter Mahler from Canada though, before I go to bed.

The cheapest way to get this set seems to be from Amazon Canada. It is $15.99 Canadian which is £10.01 plus £4.37 shipping - total £14.38 which is below the level that attracts import duty.

Currently out of stock, though could still be worth ordering. Comes to closer to 40 Canadian dollars with the express shipping. Medium option is 7-14 weeks, while slowest option is 30 weeks plus. Do customs charge on the value including shipping (which is clearly lower than the HMRC limit) or on the total, which would be more, and around £25?

PS: Looks as though the .fr site has it for under 20 euros, can deliver in a couple of days, and it'll be under £23 with no HMRC issues.

They are all multi-cd sets despite what it says in the Amazon description. Amazon is notorious for getting the deescriptions of classical releases wrong. As to postage rates for multi buys it is non-linear. The increments are small.

I got this box from Amazon.de last November. The packaging is unusable. I put the 60 discs in a spare plastic rack I had and consigned the massive box + underwhelming LP sized multilingual booklet to the loft. This arrangement works well. Taking my time, I've only got as far as Copland (CD 14) but the set is clearly well worth getting (how could it not be at about £1 per disc?)

Since you are prepared to pay up to £23 at Amfr be aware that Presto has this for £20.50 delivered and play.com for £19.99 (free delivery). The latter has the download for £11.99.

Perhaps you should set up a CD buying consultancy. You beat me on the Walter set. I thought I'd found the best deal with amazon.fr once I realised that amazon.ca wasn't going to work, but seemingly you could have shaved a further £2 off my price. Hey ho!

Thanks for the suggestion but I can think of nothing less appealing. On Bryn's advice some months ago I downloaded invisible hand - not perfect but it can save much time when it identifies the right product to compare.
