The "gold edition" issue is also ADD and seems to date from 2002. though the copyright notice is dated 1989 (though that may refer to the compilation rather than the re-mastering). There's lots of detail regarding the equipment and software used by Stanislav Sykora at SR Studio Prague:

DAW: SADIE 24-96 (24 bit audio resolution)
      Digital Audio Effector: SONY SDP-1000
Lexicon 480L - Digital Effect System
      Digital D-A Converter dCS 900
      CEDAR - restoration system.

All tracks timings bar one, and the total time are greater in the "gold edition" transfer than in the earlier "Crystal Collection" CD.

I hope to listen some time on Monday. I will have a look at some of its audio properties too.
I have it on now. There's no hiding the fact that this is a 1963 recording, but for that date it is a very good one, and Sykora and his team have done a fine job with the digitization. Everything is in that much clearer focus, and tape hiss? What tape hiss? I don't regret the few £ spent on upgrading from the Crystal Collection transfer (itself good for its day) to this one in the slightest.

Here's a 'fingerprint' of the "Crystal Collection" transfer of the organ postlude, followed by the "gold edition" offering. Both the peak level and the average RMS value for the latter are 0.2dB higher, so not much change in the overall dynamic range. However, the reduction in tape hiss means that the effective dynamic range is increased, as the graphics indicate:

Thanks, Bryn. I will order a copy. The Wit Blu-ray has arrived, so looking forward to that as well.

As I'm sure you are aware, Mahlerei, the Presto Supraphon promotion is on until 28 December.

A reasonable price on amazon.uk - cheaper and sooner on amazon.fr - even cheaper than that on amazon.de

            Much recommended!
I feel I must thank vinteuil for alerting us to these discs, which I would otherwise have been unaware of. I ordered them from Amazon.de at a price (£24 delivered) which must have been a mistake since it soon doubled. They arrived a couple of days ago - six weeks later - and are marvellous. I have heard these well-known Bach pieces anew.

This offer may only be open for today (Fri 21 October 2011) tho, so get cracking!
duly ordered, order confirmed, on returning home finding an email from TheHut that the order was cancelled due to high demand.

I was looking for food processor bowl covers, honest!
Delius CD actually turns out to be quite good. Comments about oranges in following posts noted.

Food processor replacements duly arrived too, though note that the cunning parts people ONLY supply the lid, not the pusher bits which any sane person
not in the parts supply business might have expected to be included. What a rip off - though glad that these people - http://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/...FUQe4QoduHhnrg - were able to help at all, since the manufacturer, Kenwood, were useless.

This seems to be a growing trend. I've had both The Hut and Sendit (twice now) do this to me. It doesn't encourage me to place further orders with them.

                            Re the Messiaen set.

I had this message from them a day or two ago. At least they haven't cancelled the order - yet!

I have just received Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem & Sancta Civitas with Hickox on EMI Classics. Ordered from Amazon at £2.39. Seemed a good deal to me and still available at that price. Now ripping it to my hard drive.
