Having waited two weeks for my copy to arrive, I received an email to the effect that the offer Cds had sold out, and that I could re-order at the "new" price if I wished. An angry call to Customer Services ensued and my bargain copy is to be despatched forthwith.

Worth the wait. Delivered yesterday by Patricia la Poste, having only been ordered from Amazon France on Thursday night. Much has been crammed in, resulting in some very long CDs (War Requiem on a single CD, for instance). I have a number of the discs anyway but the booklet, the packaging, the price (£1.50 per disc) and some gems unheard since my youth (Katchen's Bartok 3, Mehta's Varese) have all combined to make me not worry too much about that. A bit difficult to conceal from the other half, though
Mine arrived yesterday (I assume) - dumped on our front doorstep the way many couriers do. I really wasn't expecting it on Sunday - days ahead of schedule. The oh spotted it coming in, but heck, it's not that big, nor that expensive in the scale of things!

I have quite a few of the CDs already, or pieces on the CDs - but I figured that if the box had at least 10 worthwhile CDs which I really don't have already it'll probably be worth it. Saves me having to buy Britten's War Requiem separately to add to my collection - so far Rattle, Giulini and maybe a few others tucked away.

Seems I should go after that Barber Adagio set now, then maybe .... Celibidache Bruckner (when the issue re the disk numbers has been sorted) .... etc.

How much was that? It's still showing as £9.45 - so is that too expensive?

I guess it must have been a real cheappie price.

The 96-page selections Xmas catalogue 2011 has just arrived. Beg, borrow or steel it if you feel inclined to spend a fortune on bargains.

Good luck amateur. They were pretty bolshie when I spoke to them, claiming that they had sold out and wouldn't be getting any more; until it was pointed out that their website was showing they still had quantities in stock!

I couldn't possibly comment on whether you had a contract with this supplier, but some people certainly think you did if you placed an order and promised to pay. However, it would be interesting to know what the sitation was, if, for example, the original offer had a condition, such as "subject to limited stock availability".

Any thoughts before I take the plunge?
I ordered this having seen your posting, and hve received a number of apologetic auto responses from Sainsbury saying it's out of stock but trying to get it. Anyone had better luck?

                      thehut's T&C are carefully worded:

"All orders are subject to acceptance and availability. If the goods ordered are not available, you will be notified by e-mail (or by other means if no e-mail address has been provided) and you will have the option either to wait until the item is available from stock or to cancel your order.

Any orders placed by you will be treated as an offer to purchase the goods or services from us and we have the right to reject such offers at any time. You acknowledge that any automated acknowledgment of your order which you may receive from us shall not amount to our acceptance of your offer to purchase goods or services advertised on the Website. The conclusion of a contract between you and us will take place when we (i) debit your credit, debit card or PayPal account or (ii) dispatch the goods to you or commence the services, whichever is the later."
                      .

                      So probably not.

Indeed. Still waiting for the two following items from Play.com to arrive:
                        13 October 2011
                        and
                        01 August 2011

What's so irritating is that both items are still listed as "usually despatched within 10 days". When querying this they admitted they were out of stock and had no idea when new stock would arrive. Roll on Xmas, hopefully 2011.

That's why I went with Amazon marketplace - the cheapest UK supplier, in the hope of getting a copy of the Barber 2CD set by the end of this week.

Re contracts, I suspect an enthusiastic angler related person might disagree. Not much you can do anyway - they'll either deliver or not - what'ya goin' to do if they don't?! Sue

Another cheap set at the moment is this set of Martinu symphonies - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...&pf_rd_i=typ01 - though the performances are probably not in the same league as Behlohlavek's - but the Behlohlavek set costs considerably more. [Incidentally, only one of the CDs in this collection will rip properly in iTunes 10.5 .... but I expect that won't affect many people.]

That is a bargain! Those recordings were originally on BIS and you can still get the BIS set on Amazon for £28.50! Some difference!
