This 23 CD set of Joan Sutherland's studio recordings comes out this week - just over £2 per disc from Amazon:

      Apologies for tardy reply.

There are some mis-labellings with the set. Nothing that a felt tip pen will not solve. In my set everything is there but the contents of Disc 3 and 4 are swapped so that Symphony No 5 begins on Disc 4 and finishes on Disc 3. Disc 8, the first two movements of Symphony 8 are correct as with the booklet but the screen tells you otherwise: ignore the screen. Disc 10 tries to tell you on the screen that it is the Lowe:Carragan version of the 9th Symphony which is cobblers. I have the same recording on DVD and it is Novak. Celi would never have done the Carragan which includes the fourth movement.

As far as I have got the set is tremendous. I am hanging on to mine and relabelling discs 3 and 4.

Well worth a trawl through to pick up discs that have been missed over recent years.

I was going to ask the same question.

Lieder fans might be interested in this Siegfried Lorenz Schubert box, currently being offered at reduced price from Amazon.de. A great set from an underrated artist.

                    What's on the 7 CDs?

Sampling some Schubert on Spotify suggests a singer with limited expressive capabilities - nice tone, sings in tune, but where's the feeling? Have I got this wrong? Maybe he's not really underrated at all.

                      Klemperer set

Haven't seen any replies to this one. I am tempted, but the recordings are from the mid fifties. Does anyone have knowledge of them?

The reason for my interest is that I have a couple of LPs from East German Eterna which I haven't played for a while but remember enjoying very much when my record collection was much smaller. I wanted to upgrade to CD and checked out some favourable reviews including Musicweb:

.... and the usually infallible Alan Blyth in Gramophone:

It seems to me some of these have appeared on the Medici Masters label - good 1950s German radio recordings. Whether Membran's transfers are as good, I don't know.

                          Is this one of them?

                            Probably:

My guess is that the recording dates for the Bruckner are given in chronological order, rather then in order of symphony number. I've taken a chance at £7.90 and ordered them anyway. There is bound to be some duplication with the Andromeda Philhamonia/Vienna box re. the Beethoven Symphonies, I reckon:

Thanks for comments. At £7.99 for 10 CD's I can't resist and have ordered them. I attended some of the Klemperer Beethoven series at the RFH in 1970 when I was a student in London. He was seated at the podium and made tiny movements of the baton but still had a very significant presence that left a lasting impression on me.
