Out of curiosity went looking for the Cafe Zimmermann on Napster, and found some CPE Bach. Good - well played. How many recordings/CDs have they made? Which are the favourites?

I was in London for the Lucerne/Abbado concert so was there anyway but for anyone not in London, Hafod points the way and at a slightly cheaper price, too.
      Cheers, Petrushka and hafod

Looks like their 6 CD forthcoming set is a relative bargain then, though not ultra cheap.

The set arrived today It is not, as claimed, the complete operas. There is no Die Feen, Das Liebesverbot or Rienzi, just the well known ten.

Hi Dave, this is the link to the Alpha website, for which Café Zimmermann records...you can find all their discs here, but I would also urge you to discover the company's other recordings which are often quite splendid. A good website, too, as you can have a sample listen.

I didn't know Messiaen wrote Rienzi. Is that an alternative version? :)

                    Now corrected.

The correct post to which I was responding read:

Classic FM Magazine now they are putting complete works on their cover CDs are putting out the occasional interesting issues. This month has a double CD. LSO Horenstein Mahler 1, originally on Unicorn, currently I think unavailable. Disc 2 is Vasary with some Beethoven sonatas (8 14 23 26), originally Collins Classics.

The Horenstein/LSO Mahler 1 is well worth having.

I wasn't going to bite on that CFM issue, but Horenstein ..... Is it good? Probably worth the money then. I mentioned this in another thread because of Vasary. Now I'm guessing that Horenstein could swing this to a "buy". Ref msg 446.

Out of over a dozen versions it is a performance that I have often returned to with pleasure over the years. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the magazine if I didn't have the recording.
