Not sure if this has been mentioned before.

Seems like a bargain to me (a messiaen novice who feels he should have more of this music in his collection).
Any thoughts before I take the plunge?

Seconded. This is a terrific bargain with some excellent performances. Do get it if you can.

I think we're at crossed purposes here, Bryn

The original enquiry was about an offer from Sainsbury's for this set at £16.99

You have pointed us to an offer from play.com where it is £17.99.

My reference to the Presto site, where the set is £32.50, was intended merely to reveal the full glory of the contents.

Frankly at any of these prices the set is a bargain but the Sainsbury's offer is the bargain-of-bargains

The legendary Harnoncourt/Leonhardt Bach cantatas set is now available on Amazon France for just 115 euros, that's less than 2 euros per CD - truly a remarkable bargain, in my opinion.

... when I think how much I paid for them, one by one, as they came out - first in those severe brown box LP sets, and later on CDs....

People don't know how lucky they are these days!

Yes, I did the same Vinteuil, though of course we also got the much fuller notes and all the musical scores. Wasn't it a handsome series when it first came out? But I agree, those buying now at such a ridiculous price are spoiled rotten.

Amazon have now advised that they have cancelled all outstanding orders placed for this set at the wrong price. In view of the gross nature of the error, about £207, this seems perfectly reasonable to me. I admire them for honouring less costly errors, as in the Steinberg set for example.

Yep! And, looking on the bright side, think of all the space we'll be saving.

Indeed. We'll just have to find something else to use as a door-stop!

Not entirely at cross purposes, a51. Part of my shock was at Play.com's price being beaten by Sainsbury's. IIRC I paid around £28 for it when I 'pre-ordered' the set.

Sainsbury's are also very good for Naxos (usually £3.99 per disc)
