Rameau Opera Box on offer today - not sure if it’s a good deal - Amazon ASIN B00KYMJ4H4]
    £29.75

Might have been a personalised offer, so only ASIN number shown here.

Probably depends on whether you like Rameau enough to care.

      ... it's a good price for 27 CDs -

and worth getting if you don't already have much Rameau - BUT some of the performances (Leppard, Paillard, Harnoncourt) are a bit ancient or wouldn't be most people's first choice nowadays. But the John-Eliot Gardiner, Minkowski, and Wm: Christie recordings are well worth getting if you don't already have them

Yes, agreed, some fine performances in that box - I think the Gardiner 'Les Boréades' is worth the price of it alone!

A pity that Warner only have that outdated Paillard version of 'Les Indes Galantes' in their catalogue. Though it is old, I do have a fondness for the Harnoncourt 'Castor et Pollux', not least because Gérard Souzay is in the cast.

Now if they'd included Blu-ray Audio versions in the box . . .

You are welcome. Glad you are enjoying it. I had the briefest of listens, and decided to to blow £7 of yesterday’s £25 premium bond win on it.

Spent the rest on a dirt cheap used copy of the Brilliant Classics huge Bach box, £15 with a poor condition box and 1 CD missing.
Fortunately I have a nice empty storage box and a space on my shelves for it........

Well done with the Bach for £15. What vintage is it? There have been several different versions. I had one of the early ones which I thought was a bargain at the time, but as I recall I paid around or more than £100.

                        It’s the 2006 155 CD version, I think.
The missing CD is volume 2, cd 10, Italian Concerto etc. I have found it on a double CD used on Amazon for about £7, but not in a rush to replace it.
I have to say I have been pleased with what I have heard so far. The cantatas have been very well performed and recorded, and th B minor Mass is The Sixteen, and that was good too.
I suspect that the set I picked up was a cannibalised one, where a poor quality box ( it’s gone, beyond help) and the set with the missing CD had been put together to create another set with good box and full set of discs.
Very happy with my bargain though.

Just splurged a few more quid on some of the downloads from Classic Select World, including a set of Beethoven String quartets by the Colorado Quartet, and Haydn Symponies conducted by Janigro, and some flute music.
There's also a set of Russian String quartets for £1. My total was £6.00 - which came to £6.80 with tax. I may have had one or two of these before, but they're cheap enough that it's not such a big deal.

Oh - yes - I know the audio quality may not be great - but it's probably good enough for my immediate purposes.

Classical, Jazz, Pop, World and Country Music on CD, DVD, Digital Downloads and Blu-Ray at Great Prices! Featuring classical music by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi and performances by Karajan, Bernstein, Bocelli, Callas, Perlman and more. Featuring jazz, classic pop and rock and roll from the 1950s and 1960s.

Amazon have made me aware of yet another Bach set. That's the Teldec set - for around £150. Warner Classics - ASIN ‏ : ‎ B077QT18DW

Is that one any good? I'm losing track of these things!

Also, since the ***** B**** event - has anyone tried ordering from any of the EU based Amazon stores? If so, what where the charges - were they transparent, or were unexpected or unreasonably large extra charges applied?

I've had a recent notification from a French wine seller who seems to think that the UK has put some rules in place, post ***B*** but firstly they're not too terrible - (Apparently 24 bottles of wine can be brought back legally) - and secondly it sounds as though the border controls are so pathetic and weak that in practice few people who don't bend the rules too much will have any problems - though I'm not suggesting that should be anyone's behaviour. I bet most of us didn't even know there are/were revised rules - though I gather that they may be a state of flux - like everything else!

I guess that's the repackaged set. If so, it was rather cheaper when I got it. The repackaging lost the flip-top hard card case in favour of an awkward to access basic card box with a slip-on/off sleeve of flimsy card. Nowhere near the standard of the Bach 333 box, or even the Hänssler Classic set. Overall, an improvement on the Brilliant Classic box, however.

... I've been getting stuff pretty regularly from amazon.de, amazon.it, and other overseas sellers and have to say that (much to my surprise) bloody brexit doesn't seem to have made any difference. Costs and timings much as they always were.
