I thought I'd try to tease out some more boxes from one or two of the most obvious suppliers.
I found these by doing a search for "cd box sets classical"
Villa Lobos Naxos Symphonies – 6 CDs around £23
Rachmaninov-Concertos-Symphonies-Rhapsody-Variations – Lugansky, Previn Sony
8 CDs around £15
Unusual and lesser known French music. Composers include Bruneau, Schmitt as well as Saint Saens and Roussel, Debussy plus some expected ones. Even the pieces by well known composers may be generally unknown.
10CDs around £14
Then there's this 16 CDs around £12 from Brilliant – mostly Requiems
Could be a real bargain for anyone who likes that sort of thing.

For those who still buy CDs, Europadisc's current 'special offers' includes some nice Warner/Erato discs - notably this excellent bargain, a superb set of the complete Ravel piano music at £7.77 for 2 CDs (postage flat rate £2.95, or free if you spend more than £50): https://www.europadisc.co.uk/classic...Solo_Piano.htm

If not a bargain - is it any good anyway? Looks like 21 CDs for around £33.

Even at rather more than the Amazon price, it would be a good buy.

Excellent re-masterings. See: https://www.prestomusic.com/classica...complete-works for a track listing

This may be of interest to some; a box set of four opera blu rays from the Zurich Opera for little more than the price of each individual set.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

High prices on "New" items?
Does anyone actually buy some of the New items from Amazon or elsewhere at high prices?
I noticed this one of Glazunov symphonies - which is available both used - and "New". The used price is not bad - but the other? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Glazunov-Sy...605880&sr=8-21
I think I've got a copy which is still in the shrink wrap, since I bought several - some to give away as presents.
I know that if eBay prices are to be believed sometimes relatively rare items are sold for loads of dosh - such as Kogan's LP of Tchaikovsky violin concerto - which is or has been also available cheaply on CD, but are these really outliers?
I have several sets which now appear to have reach astronomical heights pricewise, but are they really worth that much? I'm not intending to sell in the near future, but .....
Could buy a few beers or dinners if push came to shove!
