Worth noting that the Brilliant box now includes those same Naxos performances. You can get it at Rarewaves for £33.34. If you sign up for their email (a little box should pop up inviting you to) then you can get 10% off your first order.

The generous 60% off Naxos download offer at Chandos (£2.30 for mp3 or flac) ends on Feb 5. I got the recommendable 2 Vol Debussy Paino Duets from Olivier Chauzu and Jean-Pierre Armengaud yesterday. Vol 1

Thanks for that gurn - I think I like the idea as that is the kind of price downloads should be, but a quick glance at the Naxos catalgue tells me this might be costly! Just looked at the site MP3 are £2.08!

I’ve now downloaded a few of these and are working on a few more - some historical recordings look interesting - Weingartner’s Beethoven Symphonies look interesting as do the more modern Adam Fischer set.

Is this a good box set? https://www.amazon.co.uk/New-York-Ph...1M5FQZCK&psc=1 It's hard to work out which versions of each work is in the set - though there are several which are by well known conductors, though which recorded versions they are is not easy to find out. Some might be quite old recordings. One supplier has the set marked as "New" for about £80. 65 CDs.

I'm looking for a reasonable box set to give away as a present, and spotted this one. It's over £140 at the full price - https://www.amazon.co.uk/NEW-YORK-PH...r%2C157&sr=1-2

I bought this some time ago - I think for between £55 and £60 - some duplications, particularly with Boulez and Barenboim boxes but has some good older CDs eg the Barbirolli Sibelius 1&2. Overall worth having. I have an EXCEL listing if you are interested!

My best - Hafod-spotted - bargain buy from Music Magpie in 2017 - it cost me all of £36.25. It has some fine performances, which one might otherwise overlook (Rodzinski's Sibelius 4th, for instance or Stokowski in Messiaen's 'L'Ascension' or Mitropoulos in 'The Poem of Ecstasy'), as well as more familiar fare. Excellent remastering(s), especially of older material. Posh Sony packaging (think the big Stravinsky or Szell or Walter or Boulez boxes). As Cloughie says, well worth having at the price. Available - new - on eBay UK for £65 + P&P, I see.

I am moderately interested. For once the Presto listing - which at first sight seems helpful - by at least listing all/most of the items - is rather less useful as it doesn't associate conductors with dates. Normally Presto is pretty good - but not on this occasion.

I would be interested in an Excel listing, though I'm not sure how you could do that. I don't really need an Excel file, so maybe just print and stick it up on a photo sharing site - perhaps.

Just spotted HighlandDougie's post too - so it seems to be getting a thumbs up anyway.

Curious though - spotted also the listing on the back of the box on the Amazon site - the Mahler 8th seems only to be the first part - or did I miss something?

For me there will be many duplications I suspect, but maybe if I give it away the recipient would have fewer. It's a possible - both for me and as a present.

                  Still looking for ideas -

I found this set of Blomstedt's San Francisco years - seems it might be good at the price - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Herbert-Blo...0HZ8J4TS&psc=1 15CDs around £33.

I don't have too many of those, so fewer duplications.

A somewhat selective survey. Only 2 of the Nielsen symphonies he recorded with the SFS are included.

No - you didn't miss anything. Part 1 ('Veni Creator Spiritus') only, coupled on CD45 with V-W's Serenade to Music, Copland's 'Connotations' and 'The Star-Spangled Banner' as a lollipop at the end

Looks interesting. I have quite a few of these doorstopper boxes but I don't think I'm going to be investing in them in future:

                        a) shelf space
                        b) now generally prefer download or streaming
                        c) inconvenience of accessing individual discs
                        d) duplicates
                        e) life is short (but might have a few more years - getting Covid vac this afternoon!)

I did write "it might be good at the price" - so I already took that into account. What would you recommend?

After all one can probably pick up other recordings of the Nielsen works, or even all of Blomstedt's later.

My comment was aimed not at you but at Decca/Universal.
