Presto has From the House of the Dead for £4 right now - though I'm wondering why there is mention of a German translation - https://www.prestomusic.com/sheet-mu...bretto#related

Try here for librettos - though not necessarily in/from the languages you might expect - https://www.cs.hs-rm.de/~weber/opera/libretto.htm

    Makropoulos - http://kareol.es/obras/elcasomakropulos/acto1.htm
    Jenufa - http://www.kareol.es/obras/jenufa/acto1.htm

The libretto of From the House of the Dead can indeed be downloaded as a pdf via https://libretti.deccaclassics.com/ . While you have to register, it is pretty simple so to do. Unfortunately, that seems to be the only Janacek libretto there.

The Bernstein DG very big box is down to about £219 on Amazon.

          Which is rather tempting......

Yes, but I’ve only just got the new remastered Sony box! It wasn’t as if I didn’t have some of the recordings already, including also some of the DG ones - Mahler and Sibelius for example.

The 3rd movement, in this case, the Scherzo, is corrupted. It cuts out with a loud digital 'clack' 4'41" in, the rest of the movement is silent. This applies to both the zip and the individually downloaded files.

Dammit, I bought the HiRes yesterday but hadn't played it.

Just looked at the 3rd movement using Soundforge Pro and can confirm what Bryn wrote: a nasty noise at 4:41 then silence.

I have sent a report to their customer support team. Perhaps another from you might speed things up.

I've just done so and included a screen shot of file in Sound Forge Pro.

I did quickly sample the first movement last night. With Rattle and the BP I sometimes get the feeling that everything is very beautiful but is somehow lacking, perhaps lacking the element of raw-ness, perhaps just too much concentration on the beauty of the sound. It's probably just me.

                        No, not just you . . .

Just had a quick response from 7digital, confirming the problem. They will get it corrected but are unable to say how long it might take. They offered the alternative of a different download of equal value but I have opted to wait.

Re. the Rattle Mahler 6 iii (scherzo) problem, in the interim I have listened to it as streamed at 44.1kHz lossless by QOBUZ, I thought it very impressive, especially in terms of orchestral detail and phrasing,

When nasty blips occur in non-purchased audio files (e.g. a radio broadcast), I go into a sound editing software (though freeware Audacity will do) and, zooming right in and selecting both L/R channels, judiciously delete the split-second blip. More times than not, the cut isn't noticeable as it's less than a tenth of a second. Obviously this tends to be less successful the faster the music! Sometimes the blip occurs on only one of the stereo channels, meaning volume can be reduced to minimal (or zero) on relevant stereo channel only.

Thanks Boilk, but in this case it is a pretty nasty "clack" followed by complete silence for the rest of the movement.

The version on QOBUZ is unaffected by the fault. However, it is much more expensive. I have the lossless CD rate streaming subscription option with them. That will suffice until 7digital get the replacement FLAC from the BP.
