Indeed a reasonable price if you don't have these already. I was tempted, then I wondered if I'd got them already. The same (I assume) performances turn up in the larger Brilliant boxes - typically Masterworks, or whatever they're calling them nowadays. For example - http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/...album_id=92809

              Phew. Duplication avoided!

PS: I think Brilliant now have some 10 CD boxes which they are branding as Masterworks - these are different from the earlier 40 CD boxes, which were available relatively cheaply. Not sure if the 40CD sets are still available anywhere.

                Re: Dvorak SQs

The Naxos of these is a great bargain, with the Vlach Quartet.... often easily available at well-below the usual (albeit dirt-cheap) Naxos selling price..... just thought I'd throw that in to the pot!

The Lindsays have a 4CD box set at a reasonable price of some of them - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dvor%C3%A1k-...1329264&sr=1-2

The Panocha Quartet on Supraphon also have what I assume is a complete set for around £30 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dvor%C3%A1k-...1329437&sr=1-1

I've not heard either of these quartets in all of this music, so don't know how well they compare. I'd expect them to be reasonable though.

You can, of course, pay a lot more - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dvor%C3%A1k-...1329501&sr=1-8 and you can also buy individual quartets by performers such as the Tokyo Quartet, Emerson Quartet, Cleveland Quartet etc.

                    Dave,
The Prague set does appear for less from time to time and it is very good.

It's listed at what seem reasonable prices from the USA in dollars http://www.amazon.com/Dvorak-String-.../dp/B00002DEH4 - under $40. This might be good for those living in the USA or with easy access to US markets, but for UK collectors that wouldn't work so well because of the import tax.

It seems possible to get it from either the UK or Spain for around £37 all in right now [3rd or lower on the list at present], and either would avoid UK import duties - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...&condition=new

I'm not sure whether the slightly cheaper charges shown on the second link here for sources in the USA (top of the list) would actually apply, because of the import tax. If Amazon are quoting an all in price, then the US sources would be cheaper, but if tax has to be factored in then almost certainly not.

I love the Talich quartet's recordings on Calliope, which I was able to get quite cheaply a few years back as a box set with the last 4 quartets, the string quintet and the piano quintet op 81, though it doesn't seem to be readily available except second-hand:

When you've had a good go at this set I'd be grateful for a review please Parry - mostly about how the 1970s recording of the Graf sounds really.

                                Many thanks in anticipation
