For several decades as a Gramophone reader I relied heavily on him as an oracle, especially in Lieder. I've just checked the Archive for one particular recommendation I remember from 1991. It starts: "This is the kind of disc that makes me leap to my word-processor to try to convey the pleasure I have derived from it, that pleasure doubled when it is somewhat unexpected, so I beg you not to overlook it...". I had not heard of the singer (Elisabeth Speiser) or accompanist (John Buttrick) but resolved to track it down on a small Swiss record label (not quite so easy pre-internet) and to this day it remains one of my favourite Schubert Lieder discs.

Well, this is the basic principle but it is very time-consuming (and hit 'low to high' rather than the other way round) and throws up acres of dross. Try putting in a well known record label or artist as well. I have just tried adding 'Mackerras' and, inter alia, thrown up these two:
