    Good spot. Thanks

I'd be tempted, did I not already have most of the Kocsis recordings in it.

Yes indeed. Amazon tells me I bought the set for a mere £4.57 in 2014 - a bargain I may well have mentioned on here at the time. Many discoveries and useful to back up my reading last year of the Jan Swafford bio. Eg the alluring op 17 pieces with 2 horns and harp which he wrote for his Hamburg ladies.

The Solti box looks very attractive - but of course I have most of those recordings already. It includes the Kodaly Hary Janos which I note has a very odd mastering edit - change of ambience. Otherwise that was always considered a very good recording - perhaps I shouldn't point out this quirk. Forget I wrote that - just enjoy it! I think I'll skip this box, but it looks good for anyone who hasn't got most of those already.

The Kocsis box is good for me - duly ordered.

Not quite sure how the other deal bargains were spotted, but perhaps I don't need any more right now.

I am wondering about the Latry box - maybe going to go for that.

Also just spotted - not sure if anyone would want it - but the John Williams and Boston Pops box. I think some of that would be great, - if the recordings are good - but do I really want 21 CDs of film or similar music?

I already have 6 of the 10 Latry CDs, twice, but with the Blu-ray included and at around £6 per 'new to me' CD, I might just take the plunge. Sadly, the Blu-ray does not hold higher resolution recordings of the Messiaen I already have on CDs.

There are a handful of other boxes on offer too.
Looks a bargain but as a seasoned Solti fan there are only a few recordings, 3 or 4, I don’t already have and it looks like the 50s Hay£n 101/102/103 are not included!

Hmm, not so sure about that. Two versions - both with the LPO - of No 100 (CD5; CD9), No 102 (CD5; CD9) and No 103 (CD5; CD8). Not 101, though, of which there is only one recording (CD6). Does that make sense? Thanks to the Decca website:

I think this is the link to all of the deals

I’ve also pulled the trigger on ‘The Unknown Richard Strauss’ (although I think I know most of it already )

                    Kudos to Kamisama.

Yes thanks - it was 100/102/103 - not 101, my mistake! I have 100/102 in the wonderful big Decca mono box - must have another dip into it dreckly!

Messiaen - Presto are offering a flac download of Messiaen: Le Réveil des oiseaux by Boulez and the Cleveland orchestra on DG from 1998 - 20 minutes for £1-09.
Suits me as I had only the rather turgid "historic" 1953 recording by Rosbaud on disc.

A little rushed, for my taste, as with other Boulez Messiaen recordings for DG. I'd prefer to opt for any of the three Yvonne Loriod recordings of the work. Her technique is, I feel, somewhat better in the Neumann analogue recording (Supraphon) than the mush later Nagano (Erato). However, the Nagano wins on recording quality, I suppose. The Rosbaud is, of course, very special as a performance but rather shows its age.

[Oops! Forgot about the Muraro/Cambreling (which replaced the Rosbaud when the Cambrelling Messiaen recordings got boxed up by SWR music and Hänssler Classic. That gives the music even more space to the music than Loriod and Nagano. That Cambraling box, while not the same level of bargain as the Boulez, is on offer at a reasonable price on amazon.co.uk at the moment. A little over £4 per CD, which does actually work out as a similar pro-rata cost to the Presto download.]
